Some plans may require a referral before your visit. For the most up-to-date information, call us at 313-228-5341.

Vision vs. medical coverage

Routine vision exams (for glasses and contacts) and medical eye care (for conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetes) are often billed differently, and some plans require a referral from your primary care doctor. Our front-desk team will verify your benefits and explain your coverage before your appointment — so there are no surprises.

Common Questions

Answers before you ask

Do you accept my insurance?
We accept nearly all major insurance plans — more than 60 in total — including Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, BCN, HAP, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Priority Health, McLaren, Molina, and Humana. Some plans require a referral before your visit. If you don't see your plan, call 313-228-5341 and we'll verify your benefits.
How soon can I be seen?
Same-day appointments are often available for urgent eye problems, and emergent walk-ins can often be accommodated during office hours. For routine exams, we can usually schedule you within the same week at either our Taylor or Livonia location.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of your current medications, and your current glasses or contacts. Because many exams include dilation, we recommend bringing sunglasses and, when possible, a driver.
Will my eyes be dilated, and can I drive afterward?
Many comprehensive and medical exams include dilation, which can leave your vision blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours. Most patients are comfortable driving, but if it's your first visit or you're unsure, bring a driver and sunglasses to be safe.
How long does cataract surgery take, and is it painful?
Cataract surgery usually takes about 15–30 minutes per eye and is performed with numbing drops, so it isn't painful. It's an outpatient procedure — you go home the same day — and most patients notice clearer vision within a day or two. Your surgeon will review your lens options and recovery plan beforehand.
When is an eye problem an emergency?
Call us right away for sudden vision loss, a curtain or shadow across your vision, new flashes and floaters, eye injury, chemical exposure, or sudden severe eye pain — these can signal urgent conditions such as a retinal detachment. For a life-threatening emergency, call 911.
Do you see children?
Yes. We provide complete eye care for the whole family, including children's vision and eye-health evaluations.
